OLD BONES
|
You wake up, covered in dust, and wedged between the long-dried clay that holds you captive. You lurch forward until you break free from the earth's grasp. It's been a century since you last tasted the blazing summer sun. Fences, cars, and a lot more feral hogs than you remember now dot and scar the landscape. The world as you knew is gone. You were gone. You should be gone. Didn't you have something to do? Weren't you going somewhere? Something sacred has been violated. Yet the desert hums with your presence, and you are meant to be here. Who's that woman staring at you... She feels familiar. |

General Notes
Lupe is not a very sedentary ghost. She roams the southern border between Mexico and the United States- particularly the Rio Grande of south western Texas. Although sometimes, not quite used to this new mode of existence, she will wander through the conservatory and to strange new lands. She's robust in shape, about the size of a bobcat- usually seen perched atop cactus and plateaus, and walking along barbed wire.
After meeting a grizzly end and her slumber being violated, she's quite literally in pieces. A violent and disorienting feeling hangs over her head; the world is different than she last remembered, and so is she. Once ruthless and a known force to reckon with, she now reconciles with her new place in the world.
But it was not her who was turned into a esk- no, she's merely a consequence- for it was her bones that were transformed into the dark form that lurks at night. It's not that she can't control her own body, she will just let the bones go on autopilot for her while she hibernates in her own mind.
As an esk, she has sought a new purpose at this... second chance of sorts. Caught between wandering aimlessly, guiding travelers through the desert, and following her sister's ghost, Lupe will inevitably come across many esks.
When by herself, she can be found talking to her bones. Whether or not you draw her spirit as a woman, a part of the esk, or as the breeze is up to your interpretation. She can be all or nothing.
When spoken to, the voice of the bones are dry and clear, speaking plainly and for Lupe when she's particularly disconnected and lost. It's a mutual matter between them. Interactions with other esks can range from seeing a passing shadow out of the corner of your eye to "wow, enthusiastic much." Lupe will usually come out of her shell when reminded of something she's passionate about. During the moments she's restored to her boisterous self, she's an open book.

Relationships
When questioned about her past, she doesn't hide her history of being a highway robber and a smuggler during prohibition. However she will avoid discussing her family outside of her sister, Carmen. She will avoid talking about her partner, Irene, altogether out of shame.
